Frequently Asked Questions
What is a heat pump, and how does it work?
A heat pump is a versatile heating and cooling system that transfers heat rather than generating it. In the winter, it extracts heat from the outside air (even cold air contains some heat) and transfers it inside. In the summer, it reverses the process, extracting heat from inside and transferring it outside.
How can I improve my HVAC system's efficiency?
Several factors can impact efficiency. Regular maintenance, including changing air filters, is crucial. Sealing air leaks around windows and doors can also help. Upgrading to a more energy-efficient system, like a heat pump, can also make a significant difference.
How often should I schedule HVAC maintenance?
We recommend annual maintenance for your HVAC system. This helps ensure optimal performance, prevents costly breakdowns, and extends the lifespan of your equipment.
What are the signs I need HVAC repair?
Common signs include unusual noises, inconsistent temperatures, increased energy bills, strange odors, and reduced airflow. If you notice any of these issues, contact us for prompt service.

I highly recommend.Posted on James B To anyone considering doing business w/ veteran owned Laird's I would ask you what you're waiting for? We contacted five vendors before we made our decision, four of the vendors actually came on site, and three of them provided quotes BUT only one provided quotes for both one and three units as we'd asked for; only one brought equipment specs for the units they install; and only one brought and left us an actual size cardboard foldout so we could hold it in different spots to get a better idea of where we wanted final placement. That was Laird's. I know from this research that the pricing is incredibly fair and that is without the additional Veteran's discount if you qualify. The Samsung units they install have a 12 year warranty, amazing features, and fit in some fairly small spaces. Also, if you are not aware, Efficiency Maine is offering rebates right now on heat pumps for installs meeting certain criteria. All the vendors mentioned the rebate to us but ONLY Laird's took the time to explain that by considering a fourth unit for our square footage, we'd qualify for the rebate and be getting that unit essentially free since the units are a little less that the rebate amount (even at the lowest rebate point). So in the end, with the veteran discount and the rebate, we ended up with four units for a little less than what it would have cost to install three. Even better, Laird's didn't charge us up front for the last unit, they instead discounted the invoice by the rebate amount and they filled out/submitted the paperwork to Efficiency Maine themselves. That means after the install – our paperwork was done! Ok, so now the install – great crews, professional, on time, careful of your furniture, rugs, home and then they clean up really well including wiping down the walls for fingerprints. Just terrific. One more thing I’d add and I wouldn’t normally share this but we had a difficult family situation with a gravely ill loved one during this period and after we agreed to the install and signed the paperwork, I explained the situation to Paul Laird and asked if there was any way to get just one unit installed quickly in the bedroom so we could keep him comfortable as possible. I want to emphasize that this request was in no way a condition of the sale. They had already earned our business. Well, Laird’s was out four days later to install that unit and I will only say that having it available made an incredible difference for our Dad. That is well above and beyond what we could have hoped for and beyond being very satisfied customers, we have so much gratitude to everyone at Laird’s for this incredible response! Thank you Paul and thank you to all of the crew!Posted on Walter Truman On time and always professional. Ready to answer any and all questions.
